The Volkspark Niddatal or Niddapark for short was created for the 1989 Federal Garden Show. The Berlin landscape architect Norfried Pohl had won the corresponding competition under the motto "Nature in the City" at the beginning of the 1980s, which he held in working groups

local offices in five years of construction.

After the city forest, the park with 168 hectares is the second largest green area in Frankfurt. From north to south, wide meadows stretch through the Niddatal, that of dense groups of trees,

like the old Ginnheimer or the young Praunheimer Grosse. Twelve architecturally designed squares were created as orientation and viewpoints.

Consisting of spatial compositions of monolithic steles, benches and pyramid roofs, they represent postmodern large sculptures. A 900 meter long lime tree avenue connects and divides the adjacent playgrounds as well as sports and allotment gardens.

After the garden show, some parts of the park, such as an artificial stream, were dismantled. In 2014 the park was expanded with a large water playground.
