Access to the Idagrotte is via a very narrow and exposed path. When we last visited it, it was not insured with wire ropes.
When there is oncoming traffic, it is not possible to do so without mutual consideration!!!

On the east side of the Frienstein, at the foot of the rock, is the Idagrotte, a large fissure and layer joint cave. This can be reached via a narrow path along the abyss. The way here is equipped with iron handles, so that one can find support to manage the narrow section. Traces of the medieval use as living space can still be seen in the grotto.

Frienstein near the Idagrotte is a super nice place and a must for me when I'm here for a hiking holiday. Many don't go there because they are afraid of heights. You can see the pictures on the net that you have to go around the curve. It looks tight but it is already very wide and you can hold on. Ditch your fear of heights and go there. It's worth it, you're missing out

For planning for those who don't like height and narrow paths along the abyss: the photos with the beautiful view are all taken from the Idgrotte! The Fienstein itself does not offer this view. But it is still worth it because the hike there from the holy staircase or from the Carolafelsen and the way from there to the small winter mountain is very beautiful.
