March and Watts are Vogelland: In the spring about ten million migratory birds rest in the Wadden Sea and gather strength for their onward journey: Arctic waders, duck birds and seagulls make stopover on their way to Siberia, Northern Scandinavia, Iceland, Greenland and eastern Canada in the watt, and eat three, fat for four weeks, gaining three times their weight to make it to summer quarters. The Knot, for example, moves from its winter quarters in South and West Africa to the breeding area in Siberia. He makes three stops on his 15,000-kilometer route, one of them on the Wadden Sea. The knot can fly nonstop for two and a half days, 80 km / h fast. For this he creates distributed fat deposits in the body, which supply him with energy during the flight. When he arrives in the mud, he has emaciated from 210 grams in half. Then he has to eat a lot to regain almost 100 grams of weight and set off for the last 4300 kilometers of his route to Siberia.
