The port of Schlüttsiel, named after the sluice of the same name, is located in the district of North Friesland and belongs to the municipality of Ockholm. This small port is an important starting point for ferry connections to the North Frisian Halligen Langeneß, Gröde and Hooge, as well as to the island of Amrum in summer. The port was built in 1959 to replace the port of Bongsiel to the southeast, which previously provided connections to the Halligen.
Schlüttsiel is a central point for tourism and shipping in North Friesland. The Wyker Dampfschiffs-Reederei (WDR) operates ferry services here, including the ships "Adler-Express" and "Rungholt", which regularly travel to the offshore islands. In addition to the ferry services, the port also offers a picturesque backdrop with gently rocking fishing and sailing boats.
The port is easily accessible, both via road connections to Husum and Bredstedt and by buses that travel to Bredstedt. The region around Schlüttsiel is characterized by numerous cycling and hiking trails that lead through nature and along the North Sea, making it a popular destination for outdoor activities.
