The history of the mill
In the chronicle of Langförden you can read that in 1850 the "last Calveslager heir Theodor Heinrich Gellhaus" bought the "Deeken-Stelle" and in 1875 built a water mill, the so-called "Gells Mäöhlen" (today Borgerdings Mühle).
In 1878 Franz Borgerding acquired this property. The mill has remained a purely family business to this day. It has been continually expanded, remodeled and added to.
Over the generations, a restaurant and later a hall were added to support the family.
The sawmill, which used to be operated using the water mill, has now become a modern mill, run by Franz-Josef Borgerding, in which feed is produced for the BBAG in Calveslage.
In 1993, Franz-Josef and his wife Gabi Borgerding expanded and modernized the hall into an exclusive hall with a restaurant, where company parties, family celebrations, festive balls, etc. can be celebrated with up to 250 people.
For a long time, there was also a windmill on the same property. This was used to grind grain using wind power. After the wings had to be dismantled for safety reasons in 19.., the hull was demolished with a heavy heart in 1988. There was a risk of collapse.
For many years, it was the Borgerding family's dream to build a new mill here. Finally, in 2005, they were able to realize this long-held wish (initially on paper).
The planning lasted until 2006, with many hurdles and obstacles. But then they were finally able to start the construction phase, which lasted until autumn 2007.
With enormous energy and great support from family members, friends and acquaintances, the construction of the mill was finally completed.
On October 14, 2007, the
mill café finally opened its doors. The Borgerding family welcomed more than 1,000 visitors to the inviting rooms on two floors, the terrace and the gallery by the idyllically located mill pond and served them with home-made cakes.
