Langförden is a small town, near Vechta - another, slightly less small town.
If you drive through Langförden, you can clearly see village structures. When you get closer to the church building, it really takes you off your guard, because you simply don't expect such a great church building. The thing has "domesque" features and is much younger than you think, as it dates from 1912. "St. Laurentius is a neo-Romanesque east-facing basilica of stylistic unity and is 43 meters long and 23 meters wide cathedral-like dimensions. The three-aisled nave complements a transept of the same height in the shape of a cross. The crossing is crowned by a dodecagonal crossing tower. The eastern end is formed by a semicircular apse. The western facade has a strong long-distance effect with the 46 meter high pair of towers, a large rose window in the gable and three portal arches The entire building is clad on the outside with Ibbenbüren sandstone and structured with blind arcades, arched friezes and pilaster strips.

Inside, the wall surfaces are plastered white. Only arches and services are grayed out, some capitals also have sparing color accents.....The oldest piece in the building is the baptismal font from around 1000, which was already in the old Laurentiuskirche." Source Wikipedia

Many Laurentius churches were among the churches of triumph and thanksgiving that Otto I had built after his historic victory on Lechfeld over the Hungarians. Before the battle on August 10, 955, the name day of St. Lawrence vowed that if he won, he would have churches built in honor of the saint. In the 10th and 11th centuries there was a wave of foundations dedicated to St. Churches dedicated to Lawrence.
