As Nibelungenturm the 53 m high gate tower of the Nibelungen Bridge on the left bank of the Rhine is called. Originally it was used as a living space, since July 1976 it serves as a hostel, which was expanded and operated by scouts of the Association of Christian Scouts and Scouts. Of the total of eight floors above the carriageway, five are used today. In the three floors below the roadway in the tower foot the Rheingütestation Worms is housed for the water monitoring. Their facility also includes a new building, which was added directly to the Turmfuß between 1993 and 1995.🚴
On the west side of the archway is the construction inscription: Built 1897-1900 under the reign of Ernst-Ludwig the Grand Duke of Hesse and the Rhine. Above, the small coat of arms of the Grand Duchy of Hesse is depicted as a sandstone relief. Above it is the gilded dial of the tower clock. The original mechanical movement was exchanged for a Funkwerk; It is stored in the state-owned Mobility Rhineland-Palatinate (LBM) in Worms. Below the slate helmet are also in red sandstone the coats of arms of the three provincial capitals of the Grand Duchy appropriate: Mainz for Rheinhessen, Darmstadt for Starkenburg and casting for Upper Hesse. On the east side, the capstone of the archway is decorated with a crowned crown with a crown of wine.
The coat of arms of Worms is located above the tower clock on this page.🚴♂️
