The Rheinpark in Hochfeld is one of the city's most popular excursion destinations. The 60-hectare area is a fine example of how recreational idylls can be created from old industrial areas.

The Rheinpark in Duisburg Hochfeld is definitely worth a visit, especially if you are following my bike tour.

Steelworks was followed by a district park, and the next transformation is already imminent.

In 2027, the Rheinpark will become the garden of the future and thus one of the highlights of the International Garden Show (IGA 2027), which will then run decentrally through the Ruhr area.

People no longer work in the Rheinpark (or, as they say in the Ruhr area, toil or labor) but stroll along the waterfront between the Kultushafen and the Solidarity Bridge.

The bridge of solidarity between Hochfeld and Rheinhausen is legendary.

Steel workers from all over Germany demonstrated here in 1988 against plant closures.

What is particularly successful in the Rheinpark: The symbiosis between a romantic idyll you almost feel like in a film and old industrial culture has really succeeded here.

There is a sandy beach, playground and of course gastronomy.

In the Rheinstrandcafe Ziegenpeter you can eat deliciously as we enjoy a sundowner, or drink a cold beer and watch ships on the Rhine.

The visit is worthwhile just for the sight of the beautiful panorama that can be seen strolling along the promenade.
