Beautiful view of "Little Venice" on the opposite bank of the Regnitz.

In the 14th century, stilt houses used by fishermen, half-built in the water, were built here.
In the galleries, the nets were patched and dried and the fishing boats could enter directly into the open basements of the houses.

The former fishing settlement on Bamberg's island town is affectionately called "Little Venice." Densely packed half-timbered buildings and tiny gardens dominate the landscape of this district.

The half-timbered houses mostly date back to the Middle Ages. Along the Regnitz River, they are lined up in a beautifully decorated row, with boats bobbing at the moorings in the front gardens.

Today, excursion boats sail right past this unique row of houses.

During a walk along Am Ltritt you can admire the idyllic former fishermen's houses. This is Little Venice. If you want to see them closer, you can go to the Regnitz, e.g. on a gondola. From May to October you can take a closer look at Little Venice in original Venetian gondolas. Approach at the Old Canal next to the Upper Bridge.
