Eisleben is closely linked to the Reformation, as it marks the beginning and end of Martin Luther's life. He was born here in 1483 and baptized in St. Peter and Paul Church. He died in Eisleben in 1546, was laid out in the Andreaskirche and transferred to Wittenberg. Martin Luther preached the last four sermons of his life in the 15th-century parish church of St. Andreas. The pulpit he used is still in the church today. The houses of his birth and death were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1996 as authentic sites of the Reformation.

The church was first mentioned in 1180. The conversion of the towers with a double hood was made in 1714-23. A biospecificity, here both Roman Catholic and in the afternoon Protestant worship services took place from 1530, which Martin Luther made possible.
