    The lake was formed as a terminal moraine lake after the melting of the Salzach Glacier about 10,000 years ago. Today, it is subject to inexorable silting. The lake, which is up to six and a half meters deep, is home to numerous animal species. A hiker can walk around it in just over half an hour. The views of Höglwörth Monastery, located on a peninsula in the lake, are remarkable.

            In summer, a café is open between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. where you can buy ice cream, cake, pizza and drinks. It is closed in case of rain. It is also a wonderful swimming spot.

                  The pearl of the Rupertiwinkel
                  The Höglwörth Lake is around 13.5 hectares in size and 8 to 10 m deep. It was formed after the Saalach glacier melted around 10,000 years ago and offers a habitat for numerous animal species such as pike, catfish, zander, eels, carp, perch, tench, whitefish, ducks, coots and mute swans. Located in the Rupertiwinkl, Höglwörth is part of the municipality of Anger. The town was part of the Prince-Archbishopric of Salzburg until 1803 and became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1810. Discover the unique beauty of the municipality of Anger and the Klostersee on a hike from Anger to the lake and a circular hike around the Höglwörth Lake, in around 30 minutes.
