On a peninsula in Höglwörther See is the 1125 founded by the Salzburg Archbishop Konrad I former Augustinerchorherrenstift. The church surprises with an elegant stucco decoration (around 1765) by Benedikt Zöpf and a ceiling painting by Franz Nikolaus Streicher. The showpiece is the altarpiece, the Transfiguration of Christ, by Master Francesco Vanni from Sienna (about 1600). Also impressive is the enclosed courtyard of the monastery, which is paved with fist-sized pebbles.

Archbishop Konrad I of Salzburg founded this Augustinian monastery in 1125 on an island in Lake Höglwörth. On July 30, 1817, the last provost, Gilbert Grab, voluntarily abolished the monastery and privatized it. It was the last monastery to be secularized in Bavaria. In 1821, the building was purchased by the Wieninger brewery family, who still own it today. In addition to its spiritual significance, beer also played a major role in Höglwörth. Starting in 1730, the monks built a brewery here, which initially made losses but then flourished. By 1804, the monastery was already producing 3,800 hectoliters of beer. The brewery continued to exist, even after the monastery was dissolved.

The former monastery church of St. Peter and Paul is now a branch church of the Anger parish and impresses with its architectural history, which ranges from the Romanesque period to the late Rococo period. The square bell tower with its onion dome, the single-nave nave with a gallery, and the Romanesque choir with its groin vault tell of centuries of architectural history. Particularly noteworthy are the high altarpiece by Francesco Vanni (c. 1600), depicting the Transfiguration of Christ, and the stucco work by Benedikt Zöpf (1765), which lend the church a unique atmosphere.

About the patronage of this monastery church: It was dedicated to the two saints Peter and Paul (Peter and Paul), also known as the "Prince of the Apostles." Their common feast day in the calendar of saints is June 29th.
* Simon, nicknamed Peter (Rock), was a fisherman on Lake Genesareth when he, along with his brother, was called by Jesus Christ to be a "fisher of men." According to Catholic understanding, he is the highest apostle, and the two-millennia-long line of popes—currently Francis—follows his succession. In statues and paintings, Peter is almost always depicted with two keys in his hand; this attribute refers to the biblical passage in Matthew: "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." (Chapter 16, Verse 19).
* Paul was initially an opponent of the Christian movement and, unlike the other apostles, was not called to the apostleship by Jesus Christ during his lifetime, but was only later converted through the famous "Damascus experience." His attribute is the sword with which he was executed. According to Roman law at the time, this was a "privilege" (a quick death, not associated with a long, painful death struggle like other forms of execution) reserved for the citizens of Rome.

The Augustinian monastery, dedicated to the apostles Peter and Paul, was founded in 1125 by Archbishop Konrad I of Salzburg. Höglwörth was the only monastery in Bavaria to be spared from secularization, as it only fell to Bavaria in 1810 as part of the former Salzburg Rupertiwinkel. The monastery itself enforced its dissolution in 1817. Its last provost, Gilbert Grab, requested the dissolution of the monastery as early as 1813, but this was contradicted in a rescript of the Bavarian king in 1816 that was not followed. After that, Höglwörth was still under the jurisdiction of the Freising Ordinariate at the beginning of 1817. Finally, on July 30, 1817, the last and only Bavarian monastery to be spared from secularization was dissolved.[2] This was also the last secularization carried out by the Kingdom of Bavaria. The monastery became private property and has belonged to the Wieninger brewery since 1821.
