The church in Bergedorf is called St. Petri and Pauli.

The first written mention of a church in the center of Bergedorf took place in the years 1162 and 1178. It belonged at that time to the diocese of Ratzeburg and is mentioned as an existing church with nine associated villages in the Elbmarsch. So it could well have been founded before the first mention. Up to the 15th century, there are up to three sacred benefices (one pastor and two vicars) for this church.

Presumably due to dilapidation this first (still only the Apostle Peter consecrated) church was demolished in 1499 and initially started under the supervision of the Hamburg bishop Christian Berskamp with a new building. From 1501, the Lübeck councilman Hermann Messmann led the construction. The majority of the craftsmen who carried out the new building (carpenters, bricklayers, glaziers, floor layers) came from Hamburg. On June 29, 1502, at the Feast of Peter and Paul, the St. Peter and Paul Church, newly built as a half-timbered room, was consecrated by the Bishop of Ratzeburg to John of Parkentin.

The church is open from 12 to 18 o'clock (if it is possible).

Evangelical Church of St. Petri and Pauli Bergedorf
The origins of the Evangelical Church of St. Petri and Pauli in Hamburg-Bergedorf date back to 1162, with the first documented mention. Around 1500, a half-timbered hall was built due to suspected fire damage and the new building was consecrated on June 29, 1502, on the feast of Peter and Paul. At the end of the 16th century, the nave was extended to the west and then construction of the tower began. The furnishings of the church date from the late Renaissance to the Baroque era. The impressive altar, the carved pulpit and the beautiful gallery paintings were created in the 16th and 17th centuries. The boxes on the north wall are only accessible from the outside and were added at the beginning of the 18th century. Extensive renovations and renewals were carried out in 1836 and 1956. A cemetery on the church square existed until 1831. This was moved to the Gojenberg. Former gravestones and plaques can still be seen on the outside wall. The former organist's house belongs to the church. A half-timbered building that was inhabited by the Hasse family of organists. The composer Johann Adolph Hasse was born here and died in Venice.

The first written mention of a church in the center of Bergedorf took place in 1162 and 1178.
Presumably because of dilapidation, this first church was demolished in 1499 and a new building started under the supervision of the Hamburg bailiff Christian Berskamp. The majority of the craftsmen carrying out the new building (carpenters, bricklayers, glaziers, floor layers) came from Hamburg. On June 29, 1502, the St. Petri and Pauli Church, newly built as a half-timbered hall, was consecrated by the Bishop of Ratzeburg, Johannes von Parkentin.
The single-nave brick half-timbered building with five-sided choir closure was extended to the west for the first time from 1589 to 1591 and a second time from 1608 to 1609. At that time, the tower was still southwest of the church. The transverse building with today's main entrance, called the bride's house, dates from between 1660 and 1670.
In 1759, Ernst Georg Sonnin, the builder of Michaeliskirche in Hamburg, placed a new, completely copper-clad tower on the western extension and reinforced it with a further extension on the south side.
