Park Rash Pass is guaranteed to get your muscles burning, or screaming even. At its steepest points, you'll be attacking hairpins with 25 per cent incline, although the average gradient is 11 per cent. Stick with it and you will be rewarded with amazing views and a stunning downhill ride after you reach the top at 754 feet (230 metres).

The steepest bit is the hairpin at the bottom. Take that on the right if there's nothing coming down. After that it's just a slog, followed by an easier stretch to lull you into a false sense of security before the last kick to the top. The descent down Coverdale on the other side is a delight, interrupted by the occasional fiendish kicker (yes, I'm looking at you, the one after you cross the river near Coverhead Farm)
