        The tower on the Wetzstein was built as a memorial against the expulsion of people and as a place of remembrance of a lost homeland. After the expulsion of the Germans from Czechoslovakia in 1945/46, local friends founded the Altvaterturmverein Langgöns in 1976. In 1999, the association rebuilt the Altvaterturm, which collapsed on May 2, 1959 and was not rebuilt, on the Wetzstein in a true-to-original manner.

            A visit to the tower is worthwhile in any season, and the information in the museum is very interesting. The view from the top is magnificent.
            There are many skiers here in winter, but the footpath is also cleared quite well, especially since the restaurant has recently been open again. I hope the new tenant will last longer than the old ones, but of course it depends on the number of guests...

                    After about 2 km steady uphill with a great panorama over the shale lake we arrived at the Altvaterturm. This was inaugurated in 2004 and released to the public. The original tower was located in the Jeseniky Mountains in the Czech Republic and was blown up in 1912. The internally displaced Sudeten Germans tried to rebuild "their" tower and contacted Lehesten at the end of the last millennium. Now the faithful replica is on the 792m NHN whetstone. The tower houses an exhibition about the history and life of the Sudent German spread over several floors.

They hadn't been able to return to their old homeland for a long time and knew that their old tower had been blown up. But they obviously still had the plans. They spent many years collecting money for a new tower.

                                                  Then there were the Lehestners. Their tower had also been blown up. During the GDR era, the Wetzstein was converted into a large listening post, and the old observation tower was in the way.

                                                  Then came 1989. The listening post on the Wetzstein was no longer needed.

                                                  The Altvater fans had quite a bit of money by then, but no mountain.

                                                  The Lehestners had a mountain, but no money for a new tower.

                                                  And somehow they came together, and the tower construction gained momentum.

                                                  The results can be seen today.
