Reschenstein Castle is located on a wooded mountain ridge surrounded by the Ilz in a loop, not far from the Hals district of Passau. The high medieval complex with a square keep was first mentioned in a written source in 1384 as the outwork of Hals Castle. The complex is listed as an archaeological monument under file number D-2-7446-0018 in the Bavarian Atlas as “underground medieval and early modern findings and discoveries in the area of the Reschenstein castle ruins”. It is also listed as an architectural monument of Hals under file number D-2-62-000-686.

The Reschenstein Castle (also commonly referred to as the Stockbauer Tower) is a castle on a narrow rocky ridge above the Trift Barrier near Passau-Hals. It is almost completely hidden by tall trees - only the Reschenstein keep can be seen from both the Triftsperre and the Riesaus. The building is now privately owned and cannot be visited.
