Heilsbronn Minster was founded as a Cistercian monastery in 1132 and served as a Hohenzollern burial place from 1297 to 1625. A visit to the almost 900-year-old minster with its rich late-medieval art furnishings conveys something of the spirituality of the Cistercians, as their abbey church the minster was of great importance for over 400 years. The same goes for the Hohenzollerns who were buried here for 328 years, including the three first Electors of Brandenburg.

The eponymous spring ("Heils-Brunnen") rises under the cathedral and flows outside through a roofed baptismal font. It forms the origin of the Schwabach.

The square used to have a cloister and other buildings. The Heilbrunnen fountain house still stands there today. The square is framed by the monastery church and other monastery buildings. The buildings all have an information board. So you can be your own tour guide.

The church is completely closed in January and February. It's best to inform beforehand or just look at it from the outside (like me 🤨).

The monastery of Heilsbronn (Latin Abbatia Fons Salutis) is a former Cistercian abbey in Heilsbronn in Franconia. From 1297 to 1625 the minster was the burial place of the Franconian Hohenzollerns.

Today the buildings accommodate i.a. the Religious Education Center of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria.
