The Pfarrdorf Großhaslach with the former church fortress of St. Mary lies on the old imperial road from Nuremberg to the west. Through a series of castles, this important road was secured, the church itself was surrounded since the 13th century by a defensive wall to protect the inhabitants from predatory hordes and soldiers. This defensive wall is still half existing today. Großhaslach is a station on the Central Franconian Way of St. James, which leads from Krakow via Prague to Nuremberg and continues via Roßtal, Heilsbronn, Großhaslach, Weihenzell and Häslabronn to Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
Absolutely worth seeing is next to the church of the Romanesque 1000-year baptismal font in the adjacent former Bahrhaus, which is now used as a baptistery. This is the oldest baptismal font in Franconia. The simple, massive form of sandstone is reminiscent of a chalice and refers to the altar sacrament, which is granted access to the baptism.

St. Mary is a church named after Mary, the mother of Jesus.
According to tradition, the first church (patrocinium unknown) was built on the site of an originally pagan sacrificial site, which was located on a mountain spur. This was founded by Benedictine monks from the St. Gumbertus monastery in Ansbach in the 8th century. Nothing remains of this church. In its place was in the 12./13. A fortified church was built in the Romanesque style in the 19th century. The remains of a defensive wall and a Romanesque baptismal font, which is now in the baptistery, the former Bahrhaus, bear witness to this.
Today's parish church of St. Maria - originally a late Gothic church building - was erected on the site of the old church towards the end of the 15th century and consecrated in 1497. Around 1530 the Reformation was introduced. In 1783 the hall was rebuilt.
