Especially nice when the sheep are grazing in the meadow, the satisfied bleating of the wooly lawnmower fits wonderfully into this environment. Then (even better: always) keep dogs on a leash! Incidentally, the orchard is tended by the Rhine-Sieg Biological Station.

" A meadow orchard is a collection of fruit trees of different ages and varieties. The trees are so far apart here that each tree has enough space and light to grow. The trees are usually tall fruit trees (i.e. the crown of these trees is only beginning at a height of about 180 centimeters). Another feature is the absence of chemical-synthetic pesticides and artificial fertilizers in cultivation.
The grassland under the trees can be used in different ways: for example as pasture (with sheep or cattle) or as a meadow. Depending on the location, such hay meadows are mowed only one to three times a year. This also gives slow-growing and mowing-sensitive plant species space and time, so that an abundance of the most diverse plants gradually develops. This also has a positive effect on insect diversity and the rest of the food chain. On meadow orchards, preference is given to cultivating old fruit varieties that are resistant to diseases and parasites, and often yield less than modern varieties, but produce better quality fruit. Meadow orchards belong to the agricultural meadows. Orchard cultivation is a traditional form of fruit cultivation that used to be widespread. Nowadays, when tending and maintaining meadow orchards, the focus is often less on the yield and more on the nature conservation aspect. "
