The climb to the Pfaffenstein is easily doable with children aged four and over, but parents will also feel the ups and downs in their bones afterwards. The tour rewards you with fantastic views and a detour to the famous Barbarine.
The start is the parking lot at the foot of the Pfaffenstein. From here a straight path leads uphill to the foot of the rock. There you go up a sweaty path over the “eye of the needle”. (If you like it easier, you can also choose the comfortable climb along the right.)
Once you have reached the top, after a short break you should turn left at the next intersection, where the breathtaking view of the Gohrisch and the Papststein awaits you. Back on the main path, we continue to a junction that leads to the "Sacrificial Cauldron", a cauldron-shaped depression that was probably created in the last Ice Age. A wonderful panorama reveals itself here again.
Back on the hiking trail, we continue to the inn on the Pfaffenstein with a viewing tower. Thanks to good signposting, the path to Barbarine is easy to find from this cozy rest area: after numerous stairs and a dark crevice in the rock, the view opens up to the “Stone Maiden”. Now walk back towards the inn and then turn left at the first junction down the gorge path. It ultimately leads back to the starting point.

The ascent to the Pfaffenstein is very pleasant. Of course it goes back over hill and dale and many stairs, but the Saxon Switzerland without stairs? - That does not exist. :) At the top you will be rewarded with a beautiful view and can explore the plateau for a very long time.

The Pfaffenstein is best hiked from Königsstein. At the tourist information there is a free parking lot.
The hike over the whorl with thieves cave, then to Pfaffenstein (bottleneck ascent) and the comfortable descent back to King stone. Day trip!

There are two ascent options on the rock. A comfortable and a climb. The comfortable ascent is suitable for many fitness levels. Good surefootedness is also required here. The climb is very steep and is characterized by many steps, a few ladders and some narrow points. Therefore, good fitness and sure-footedness are required. Once at the top there is a lot to discover in addition to a few more steps - including a small cave, beautiful views, an inn, a gorge and of course the many unique rock formations.
