The Filmmuseum Potsdam has resided since 1981 in the royal stables next to the rebuilt city palace, now the seat of the Brandenburg state parliament, in Potsdam's historic center. The building was built in 1685 as the Electoral Orangery. Since then, the building has undergone a varied history with different uses. The museum has been part of the Film University Babelsberg since 2011.

Film Museum Potsdam
The Film Museum Potsdam was founded in 1981 as the "Film Museum of the GDR," making it the oldest film museum with its own collection and exhibitions in Germany. It received its current name in 1990. It has been run by the state of Brandenburg since 1991 and is organizationally part of the Babelsberg Film University.[1][2] The focus of the collections and permanent exhibition is the world's oldest film studio in Babelsberg, its film productions, and the artists who worked there on films by Bioscop, Ufa, DEFA, and Studio Babelsberg. Temporary exhibitions, family exhibitions, and foyer exhibitions on German and international film and media topics complement the exhibition program. The Film Museum operates a museum shop and a cinema with several screenings daily; silent film screenings are accompanied by music from the historic Welte cinema organ.
