In the Hans-Watzlik-Hain no forestry is operated in the classical sense and the flora is left to itself. Fallen and uprooted trees, lightning strike and large broken branches testify to this. Here are also ancient trees; the largest of these is the "Large Wood House" with more than six and a half meters in diameter (standard measured at chest height of 1.30 m).

The Hans-Watzlik-Hain, named after a Bohemian poet, houses ancient giant trees. Including the mightiest tree in the Bavarian Forest National Park, the Große Waldhausanne, with a circumference of over six and a half meters and a height of over 50 meters. There is a small junction on the “Green Triangle” hiking route that leads through the middle of the wilderness with standing and lying giant trees. The primeval forest was placed under protection as early as 1950.
