        Sometimes, i.e. when the weather is (in)appropriate, I feel as if I am walking out of a painting by the famous painter, whose monument here - in his native town of Greifswald (on September 5, 1774) - honors the artistic work of Caspar David FRIEDRICH:
        "Wanderer above the sea of fog" :-)

          You can easily walk past the monument if you walk from the market square in the direction of St. Nikolai. That it is so hidden here is a bit surprising, considering how well known Caspar David Friedrich is and that Greifswald is his native town.

              The Caspar David Friedrich monument was created in 2009 by the Lübeck-based sculptor Claus-Martin Görtz. Since 2010 it has been located on Lappstrasse, near the fish market, in the immediate vicinity of St. Nikolai Cathedral and the property on Lange Strasse where Friedrich was born. The creation of the bronze sculpture is the result of a private initiative. The funding for the monument was secured by the Schwerin Ministry of Culture and thanks to numerous donations from citizens, companies and institutions in the region.
