As Oberpräsident of Altona and thus the highest Danish administrative official of the city, Conrad Daniel Graf von Blücher-Altona saved the city from destruction by the French under Napoleon Bonaparte during the siege of Hamburg in 1813/1814.

The memorial shows Conrad Daniel Graf von Blücher-Altona. Blücher came from an aristocratic family with its ancestral seat in Mecklenburg. The noble origin opened many doors for him. So he came to the Landescadet Academy in Copenhagen, where he quickly rose to the ranks at the Danish court. In 1808 he was appointed mayor of Altona, then Denmark's second largest city. He was Grand Cross bearer of the Danish Order of Dannebro. In 1838 he received the Order of the Elephant, which can be seen on the monument and which is perhaps comparable in importance to the British Order of the Garter.

The Blücher monument in Hamburg Altona is located in the Betti-Levy-Passage and was created in 1852 by the sculptor Franz Bernhard Schiller.
Conrad Graf von Blücher, born on February 29, 1764, died on August 1, 1845 in Altona, was of noble descent from birth. He belonged to the noble family "Blücher" from the Mecklenburg region. The young Conrad Blücher spent his time studying as a cadet at the Danish Cadet Academy in Copenhagen. He then rose to the rank of court marshal at the Danish royal court. Due to his abilities, Conrad Graf von Blücher was appointed head of the then Danish city of Altona in 1808. Blücher was now the senior president of Altona and served his city very well and with some decisive, prudent political decisions.
