Also interesting, however, is the use of the backyards, when you enter through the gates, as residential and business areas

Altona was Danish from 1640 to 1867 and so Schulterblatt was considered the border between Danish and Hamburg territory. Schulterblatt got its name from 1745 at the latest from a country road of the same name that ran from the old Millerntor to the village of Eimsbüttel. From the beginning of the 20th century until the Second World War, it was a shopping and entertainment street. In the 1980s, it developed into a pub street with the opening of numerous restaurants.

Schulterblatt is a street in the Hamburg districts of Sternschanze and Eimsbüttel; it is considered the core of the Schanzenviertel. It originated from the country road to Eimsbüttel and was located in the border area between Altona and Hamburg. From the beginning of the 20th century until the Second World War, it was a shopping and entertainment street.
Since the mid-1980s, it has developed into a pub street with the opening of numerous restaurants.
The name goes back to an inn that used the shoulder blade of a whale as a signboard, so that from around 1700 the street was popularly called Beim Schulterblatt. The inn itself was mentioned in the Altona land register in 1717. On a map comparing the border between Altona and Hamburg from 1745, the street is entered as Bey dem Schulter Blat. The official name Schulterblatt was given in 1841.
