Beautifully secluded, but in the middle of nature

At this point, as part of the visualization of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Haithabu and Danewerk, the Vikings' sea barrier was reconstructed in wood and illustrated with a display board. The Vikings' sea barrier is said to have been 1.6 km long. During the Viking Age, the water level was 1 m lower than it is today. It would have been relatively easy to cross from Schwansen to Angeln. Ships also sailed through the Stexwiger Enge to Haithabu. In the 8th century, the Danewerk was massively expanded - the North, Krumm and Osterwalls were built as an extension of the defense line, as well as the barrier here in front of Reesholm. It thus closed the gap in the defense system.

The old brickworks - a small museum area that can be entered free of charge. Celebrations take place here. Ideal for children.

The area is accessible by bike. The castle is in a wonderful location. Today it houses an elite boarding school. One of the most expensive ever. Among other things, Lilli Schweiger attended boarding school
