The long beds are megalithic tombs from the Stone Age. Even today they are tangible evidence that people lived in the area at a very early stage.

In 1817, the dilapidated St. Peter's Church was demolished and replaced by the current building. The new church was built of fieldstones, consecrated on August 29, 1819, and dedicated to the Apostle Peter. The interior of the church was redesigned in 1959/60, during which the galleries on the north and south sides, which also housed the patron's pew belonging to the estate owners' family, were removed. The oil painting "Adoration of the Child" (late 18th century) on the altar comes from the previous church. The clock bell is the oldest church possession; it was cast as early as the 13th century. The Schack bell, dating from 1620, has been ringing for four centuries. The alms box was first mentioned in 1685, and the Lüneburg Baroque baptismal angel from 1695 has hung from the ceiling for almost as long. Two “giant beds” (huge graves) on the northern edge of the town are evidence of early historical settlement in the area around Dassendorf; the street “Am Riesenbett” still indicates this today. These are two heavily damaged long beds registered under numbers 772 and 773. Grave 772 is about 38.0 m long and 6.0 m wide. The mound, which is still 60 cm high, had a rectangular stone frame, which is still partially intact. In the western part, the remains of a burial chamber can be seen. Grave 773, which is further south, is about 35.0 m long, 7.0 m wide and still 70 cm high. The stone frame of the mound is partially intact. There is a chamber in the eastern third.
