It is one of over 1000 climbing rocks in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.

The Schrammtor is a striking rock formation on the western edge of the Schrammsteine. It forms a natural passage between high sandstone walls and is part of a well-maintained hiking trail. The path through the Schrammtor is natural, includes steps, and leads directly into the heart of the Schrammsteine. The soil consists of fine sand, formed by the weathering of the rocks. The Schrammtor is located on an important connecting route in the hiking trail network and is, for example, part of the fourth stage of the Malerweg (Painter's Trail). The Schrammsteine Ridge Trail is a challenging ridge hike through the rugged rock formations of the Schrammsteine in Saxon Switzerland, offering a sense of adventure and spectacular panoramic views. The tour is classified as a difficult route and requires very good fitness, surefootedness, and alpine experience. It leads along well-secured paths, climbs, and through gorges, connecting with the Malerweg trail.

Points towards "Kuhstall" and "Winterberg"

The Schrammtor represents the entrance to the imposing Schrammsteine. It is more of a gap than a gate, behind which the mighty towers of the Schrammsteine extend.
