St. Edith Stein Jew, Christian, atheist, philosopher, intellectual and nun. Edith Stein was all of these things, and she was murdered in Auschwitz on August 9, 1942. The "Patron Saint of Europe" is a special role model for our parish in the search for truth, devotion to God, longing for Jesus Christ, veneration of his presence in the Eucharist, striving for holiness in following Christ through the cross and suffering and selfless devotion to one's neighbor. Edith Stein's life and death are testament to an unswervingly lived faith. Edith Stein was baptized in St. Martin's Church on January 1, 1922. Bad Bergzabern is therefore an integral part of the saint's faith history. Her baptismal church is in fact the turning point on her path to holiness!
