For those who enjoy mountain biking and exploring beautiful passages, this hike is a great option. You'll cross beautiful trails and a medieval site (Château de Moncornet) (cover photo). There are some technical points, but they're not insurmountable.

Beautiful and varied walk between fields and meadows and through forest. On the way you pass through a few villages, go around a walled castle and pass the well-preserved ruins of an old fortress in Monthermé.

Lac des Vieilles Forges is surrounded by forests and meadows. You can enjoy views of the water and wildlife while circling the lake. The lake is also part of a hydroelectric system that pumps water to and from two reservoirs to generate electricity.

Located in the heart of the territory of the commune of the Ardennes Thiérache, near the forest of Pothées, it was recognized by the Charter of Milon de Nanteuil in 1208. Crossed by the departmental road 8043 halfway between Charleville-Mézières and Hirson and 10 minutes from the A304 it is a lively town center with various shops, businesses, artisans and services. A dozen sports and cultural associations animate Maubert-Fontaine all year round. Other important characters were part of Maubert's story, such as Nicolas de Caruel and Napoleon Bonaparte who came to rest at the Hôtel du Grand Turc on the night of Waterloo. The proximity of the forest allows beautiful walks with certain points of interest: the 2-legged oak and the oak of the Franco-Belgian friendship. Medieval fortress. The Château de Montcornet has retained its original appearance as a medieval sentinel. Dominating the small valley of the Sormonne, the rock of Mont Cornu has been occupied since the 12th century by a fortress, abandoned in the 17th century. The ruins of the "Colisée Feudal de Montcornet", dear to Michelet, have been cleared and the underground passages now house an exhibition space.
