Jewel of French Renaissance architecture. Built by Philibert de l'Orme, humanist and architect of King Henri II, the castle of Diane de Poitiers, mistress of the king, is a masterpiece. Considered a jewel of the French Renaissance and a high place of art, the Château d'Anet was built in 1548 by King Henri II for his favorite, Diane de Poitiers. The greatest artists of the time took part in its construction, including Philibert de l'Orme, Renaissance architect and humanist, known for his anti-Italianism and his interpretation of antiquity. The estate includes the magnificent castle of Diane, of which only one wing remains, the royal chapel in the Greek cross, a masterpiece of originality with its trompe l'oeil checkerboard, the triumphal portal in which is enshrined the curious clock that indicates the phases of the Moon and the funeral chapel in which Diana has been resting again since May 29, 2010.
