A magnificent and historic monastery garden. It's terraced, and today only the upper terrace is cultivated. But it's worth it. The garden vividly displays various medicinal and useful herbs and exudes a wonderful fragrance!

On the Eifel pilgrim cycle path between Esch, Krames and Klausen you can enjoy wide views over the countryside. If you are travelling eastwards you will have a beautiful view of the church tower of Klausen.

The patronage of the Klausen pilgrimage church, “Visitation of Mary (or in another spelling: Mariä)” refers to one of the many memorial days or festivals in honor of the Mother of God Mary. The term “Visitation” – which has negative connotations in our current way of expression or thinking – refers in the Bible to Mary’s visit to her relative Elizabeth. She was married to Zacharias and the marriage remained childless, which was a social stigma at the time. But despite her advanced age, she became pregnant, which the Archangel Gabriel told Mary when he brought her the message that she herself would give birth to the Son of God, Jesus. The son of Elizabeth and Zacharias was John, nicknamed “the Baptist,” who is considered the forerunner/pioneer of Jesus Christ.

The church in the place of pilgrimage Klausen is worth a visit.

Nice resting place with a chapel on the way to Klausen. Here you can gather physical and mental strength for the upcoming ascent. The chapel shows the cross of Jesus with John and Mary. There is a bench in front of the chapel.

Not big, not particularly spectacular, but rather small and inconspicuous at first glance. The opposite of faster, higher, further. But the longer you stay here, the more the garden develops its magic. Hidden behind a stone wall, only marked with a slate sign and the inscription “histor. Abtsgarten ”is the garden laid out on three terraces, which originally dates back to the founding days of the former Augustinian Canons' monastery in the 15th century. A wonderful place with a magic all of its own !!

Very nice church, various restaurants, hotels and stalls at the foot. Closed on working days.
