A castle-palace of the Dukes of Anjou in the 19th and 19th centuries, the Château de Saumur, where King René resided, is the last example of the princely palaces built by the Valois dynasty. It served as the residence of the city's governors, a prison, and later an arms and ammunition depot. It was purchased by the city in 1906 to house the municipal museum, now the Musée de France. The Château de Marson is an old castle built in the 19th century in the town of Rou-Marson. The castle is surrounded by a natural park with majestic trees and a pond. You can admire the architecture of the castle, a listed historic monument, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the countryside. The castle also has a magnificent mosaic pool, created by the famous artist Isidore Odorico. The castle is not open to the public, but you can rent it for weddings or other events.

The castle is definitely worth seeing, especially with children. The Tolkien exhibition, well, and perhaps the 150 Stirrups aren't something you need to see. But the knights' armour, the furnished rooms and the castle itself are interesting for small children. In 1-1.5 hours you can see everything for free, adults 8 euros.
