The Saint-Pierre du Clion church was built in the Middle Ages. Remodeled in the 17th century, it was enlarged in the 19th century. It is undoubtedly the only church in the Pays de Retz where you can admire a genuine carillon mechanism dating from 1857. A bell tower-porch, a former watchtower The church of Clion is remarkable with its tall, massive square tower, like a keep. It is believed to date back to the 15th century, or even the 14th century.

a stop at the bakery is essential

The footbridge is closed (in November 2024) because its condition is too degraded... It's hard to say when work will be done. In the meantime, the detour via the road bridge to the northeast remains a good option (and will probably even be faster by bike because there are no steps!).

We didn't want to climb up these high steps with our fully loaded bikes. The small detour along the marked EV1 route over the next weir is much easier and certainly doesn't take much longer. At the top of the stairs you'll notice the sign saying that it's only 1,547km to Santiago de Compostela! If you've made it this far, you'll probably make it to the "Field of Stars". Buen Camino!
