The legend of the hare depicted on the "SiebenSchussStein" (Seven Shot Stone), which survives the shots of seven hunters unharmed, also gives its name to the dialect group "Sibbeschuss".

Located between the towns of Dünstekoven and Buschhoven, gravel used to be excavated here. The gravel pit has since been closed. The area - which is not freely accessible (!) - has since become an ecologically valuable nature reserve. It is looked after by the NABU Bonn district group. In August, there was - as an exception - the opportunity to enter the area as part of guided tours and receive explanations. Outside of this event, entry is prohibited!

The hiking highlight documented here is already in the forest called Kottenforst. It is reached on the fifth stage of the Roman Canal hiking trail, which leads from Rheinbach over around 23 kilometers to Bornheim-Brenig. The previous route was - apart from the villages of Lüftelberg and Buschhoven, which had to be crossed - exclusively in open fields. This offered beautiful views, but also very little shade on a warm summer day. The coolness of the forest is therefore very welcome to the hiker here.

This small chapel at the star-shaped junction behind/before Buschhoven is an ideal place to take a short rest. From here you have a beautiful view to the west towards the first hills of the Eifel.

You roll past fields and meadows on smooth asphalt and can let your gaze wander. It is particularly beautiful here in summer when you can practically smell nature.
