Saint Martin, to whom the church in Niederpleis is dedicated, is probably one of the most popular saints of all - next to Saint Nicholas. The memorial day of the former officer in the Roman army is November 11th. On the night after the famous "cloak sharing", when he gave half of his army cloak to a freezing beggar, Jesus Christ appeared to him in a dream. He then converted to Christianity and was later elected Bishop of Tours (France) - initially against his will. Many people will have fond childhood memories of making lanterns in kindergarten and elementary school, the evening lantern procession through the dark village / district - and of course the delicious "Weckmann".

Worth noting is a memorial stone that the (then still independent) city of Beuel (now a district of Bonn) placed on November 9, 1968 in the Jewish cemetery between Schwarz-Rheindorf and Geislar. The inscription reads: “Remember your murdered Jewish fellow citizens, so that this time never returns.”

Beautiful and welcoming route. The path is paved and car-free. Great connection to the cycle path along the Sieg.
