Hilgen is the largest district of the city of Burscheid in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia and is located on today's federal highway 51. The name comes from Holy and is said to come from a saint's house or image of a saint that stood on the street now called "Altenhilgen". The first mention in 1510 can be found in a tax list for the church in Wermelskirchen. It says, Ernt up den Hilgen gives 3 quarters and a cup (of oats?) as a tax for his land, which is in the Wermelskirchen area. There is a Lutheran Reformed, a Free Evangelical, a Catholic and a New Apostolic parish. There is also a primary school, four kindergartens, a sports hall and an artificial turf sports field. Important organizations in Hilgen are the shooting club (Hilgener Schützenverein 1923 e.V.), the sports club (Turngemeinde Hilgen 04 e.V.) and a fire brigade from the volunteer fire department. There is also a savings bank and a bank branch.

Every year we visit Sineswald near Wietsche, a picturesque corner surrounded by nature. There we can not only admire the latest artistic creations, but also experience nature in its full splendor. The place comes to life with each season and it is always an inspiring experience to watch the changes. We value the peace and quiet and the opportunity to be inspired by nature. It is a place that fills us with hope and gives us positive energy for the coming year.
