Just recovering from Storm Floris, which raged through here yesterday, but today the weather is perfect for the first hike of the holiday: the Grundsund coastal path with beautiful views, some wetlands too (with a handy and nature-friendly boardwalk through it), and a charming village as a starting and ending point.

"Syrian Horse" is a five-meter-tall iron horse by the artist Mohannad Solaiman. It is made of 6 mm thick iron wire, which has acquired a red hue due to rust, and weighs 500 kg. One might think the sculpture represents freedom from its context, but for Mohannad, it means more. Its message, despite its name, is more universal. It touches on the human quest to realize dreams, to keep one's eyes on the horizon, and to find new paths when the old ones are destroyed. He explains why the horse was chosen as the motif: - The horse as a symbol has many meanings. The sculptures on display change regularly, or annually. Therefore, don't rely on the photos published on Komoot, as these sculptures will likely no longer be there next year, and other sculptures will be on display. Our expectations were set by pictures of Ai Wei Wei's exhibits, and we searched in vain for them. It's best to check the park's website, pilane.org, for information about the current exhibition in advance.

I came here quite by chance, as you can see the white head of "Anna" from a long way away. The park can also be cycled with a gravel bike or mountain bike, if you are willing to carry the bike up several flights of stairs and don't "have to" ride off every sculpture. The best way is to cycle up to the head and have a wonderful view over the hilly landscape all the way to the sea.

On the initiative of an art collector, a sculpture park has been created here that is unrivaled in Sweden, the Pilane Sculpture Park. At the very top, Anna is enthroned with a radiant white facial sculpture by the Spanish artist Jaume Plensa.
