Savitaipale is a municipality with just over 3,200 inhabitants, centered around the village of the same name. In addition to a few small shops and cafés, you can visit the Hakamäki Open-Air Museum. St. Mary’s Church of Lappee is a unique natural and cultural site of the Saimaa Geopark, located in central Lappeenranta. Built in 1794 by Juhana Salonen, it is the only wooden double cruciform church from the 18th century in Finland. Bunker B132 near Särkilammi is a reinforced concrete dugout built for a 45 mm anti-tank gun and machine gun, forming part of the Salpa Line. Though locked, it remains an impressive example of Finnish WWII fortifications, with original features like an observation dome, emergency exit, and accommodation for 20 soldiers. The bunker’s interior includes restored benches, a well, and uncamouflaged gun walls. It's located in forest terrain off Kirpuntie, suitable for trekking or cross bikes, though be prepared for uneven paths. If visiting during an open event, bring a torch and sturdy shoes—interiors can be dark, cold, and slippery.

The Salpa Line in Askola is part of Finland’s extensive WWII-era defence line, with preserved bunkers that are open to visitors in summer or by request at other times. The site includes original concrete structures and trenches, giving a glimpse into wartime history. You can explore the area independently or join a guided tour for more context. The surroundings are forested with some uneven paths, so trekking or cross bikes are recommended. Bring good footwear if you plan to explore the bunkers on foot, as the terrain can be rough and damp in places.
