Savitaipale is a municipality with just over 3,200 inhabitants, centered around the village of the same name. In addition to a few small shops and cafés, you can visit the Hakamäki Open-Air Museum. St. Mary’s Church of Lappee is a unique natural and cultural site of the Saimaa Geopark, located in central Lappeenranta. Built in 1794 by Juhana Salonen, it is the only wooden double cruciform church from the 18th century in Finland. The surroundings are forested with some uneven paths, so trekking or cross bikes are recommended. Bring good footwear if you plan to explore the bunkers on foot, as the terrain can be rough and damp in places.
