It's a beautiful, narrow bridge with the unique feature of allowing you to sit quietly and admire the spectacular scenery in which you find yourself.

Bridge with benches. So when you cross the narrow bridge, you can rest on one of these stone benches.

The dam takes its name from the nearby village of Alqueva. This dam was a project dating back to the time of dictator Salazar. It was completed 50 years later. The dam was primarily built to promote agriculture rather than electricity production. Indeed, the region was severely lacking the water needed for agricultural production. The result was the largest artificial lake in Europe in an extremely dry region. The village of Luz was submerged and rebuilt identically.

Monsaraz is one of the best-preserved historic towns in the Alentejo and an old Templar domain. The town still boasts a continuous, enclosed city wall and many preserved historic buildings. This beautiful medieval town is an absolute highlight on any tour of Portugal. The village's narrow streets and whitewashed houses will transport you on a journey back in time. The most important sights are the old castle, the Matriz Church, and the former Palace of Justice. As long as you arrive before the hordes of tourists arrive by bus, a stroll through the old streets is truly enjoyable.

This church has a life-size wooden sculpture of Jesus carrying the cross, a wonderful piece of contemporary history.

Pretty town near the Portugal-Spain border at the foot of the Ficalho hill that gives the town its name. It can be reached from Rosal de al Frontera (SP) by a picturesque road through the hill that crosses the border.
