Sometimes it's nice to receive support in your life. Perhaps this tree too! The saying "Een steendragen" (to contribute a stone) is a Dutch expression that means to help out with something, to make a (small) contribution to a project, goal, or situation, whether in time, money, or effort, to help realize or improve it. It comes from literally laying a brick for a building project, but is now used figuratively.

These trees hugging, embracing, kissing each other reminded me of Klimt. But then, they originated from nature. The Kiss is a painting created by the Austrian painter Gustav Klimt between 1907 and 1908. The painting became world-famous during the flower power era and has since been frequently depicted on postcards and posters. The painting depicts a large man kissing a woman on the cheek.

Some trees are real woodpecker trees! Dead, full of holes! Normally, the black woodpecker can be heard from far away. But this time it was busy. I've never been able to see a black woodpecker up close like this before. Who knows, maybe you'll see a woodpecker in this woodpecker tree someday!

On the Gorsselse Heide, not far from Zutphen, lie the remains of two old Dutch shooting ranges. The site was used as a military training area from the mid-19th century. The shooting range itself dates from the first half of the 20th century. The relatively small complex consists of a small plot of land surrounded by a ditch, accessible through a gate. Once on the site, the remains of the shooting range consist of a few concrete rafters and a large earthen bullet trap behind it, with a disc shed where bats are allowed to live!

Due to good management, the Gorsselse Heide is even good to walk in very wet periods. You can make a nice walk around the heath. Halfway you can halve the round by cutting through.
