11월 16, 2025, De Hoop Windmill Harderwijk
The beautiful windmill "de Hoop" in Harderwijk, which operates on Wednesdays and Saturdays, is a delight to look inside and hear how the mill works. A detailed miniature replica inside gives a clear impression of the process.

The castle has changed its appearance in many ways over the centuries. The current building dates from 1905 and was built by Herman Theodore s'Jacob, the scion of a noble family. His father Frederik Bernhard was mayor of Rotterdam and his grandfather was governor of the Dutch East Indies. The architecture goes back to older styles, but the interior still contains features of the Art Nouveau style that was popular at the time. The rest of the estate is still largely intact and the castle garden has also been restored with honor.

Before 1830, the Beekhuizerzand was part of a large quicksand area. Between 1880 and 1930, it was planted with pine trees on a large scale, especially to prevent dusting. It was also used as a military training area and opened for recreation from 1963. In 2004, many fly pines were felled and the top layer removed from the ground, so that it has become a real quicksand area where the destructible sand has been released again. The area is grazed by sheep.

Staverden Castle has a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. The current castle, partly built in 1853 and partly in 1905, is surrounded by a beautiful estate. The brasserie and brewery located on the estate are also nice. Good place to take a break!

One of the beautiful quicksand areas in the region - although not really natural, but it's worth it as you don't find something like that often.

The De Hoop mill is the gateway to Harderwijk. The mill can be seen from far out of town. It towers proudly above the other buildings. It is a real and beautiful eye-catcher, symbolizing the rich history of the Hanseatic city. With the help of the wind and the many volunteers, the blades of this authentic 1776 scaffolding mill have been running for many years.

According to folk tales, there used to be a monastery here, where dark practices took place... The abbot and the monks who lived in the beautiful monastery did not take the pious life very seriously. They drank gallons of wine, gorged themselves during meals and organized meetings with witches and ghosts. Together they danced until it became light again. This went on for a long time. The monks partied, drank and enjoyed life. Until, sometime in the Middle Ages, a stormy Christmas evening put an end to the wicked excesses in the forest. Suddenly, local residents heard a huge lightning strike. The next morning a little boy passed by the site and discovered that the entire monastery had disappeared into a large hole in the forest. All that could be seen were some uprooted trees around the site, the brick path that was the access road and a deep hole.

The legend of the Solse Gat The Solse Gat is a mysterious place in the middle of the Veluwe. In the old forests near Drie there is a large hole in the middle of the forest, the Solse Gat. Geologically speaking, the Solse Gat is a relic from the Ice Age. The name probably came about because the Germans used it as a place of worship for their sun god Sol. The most exciting story is the legend of the sunken monastery: According to legend, where this hole is today there was a large monastery with many towers. This was an ugly, dark place; the chief and all the monks had sold their souls to the devil. In the middle of the night a black mass was held with all the witches and ghosts from the area. The villagers heard the most terrible noises. This lasted until a stormy Christmas night centuries ago. The monastery disappeared into the ground with a huge clap of thunder. All that remained was a gruesome pit. Since then, if you listen carefully, you can hear the monastery bells ringing hoarsely around midnight. Some even see a blue glow rising from the hole. Fortunately, when the sun rises, it seems as if nothing has happened. The dancing trees together with the Solse Gat form a beautiful picture. You can sit on the benches at the Solse Gat and ponder all the exciting stories. Sources:ermelobuitenleven.nl/verhalen/de-legende-van-het-solse-gat beleven.org/verhaal/de_legende_van_het_solse_gat

7월 30, 2022, Monument voor Prima Mensen
The monument 'Prima Mensen' is a 2m high concrete pentagram; a star with a hand with a raised thumb on two of the five points. The thumb is a reference to 'like' on Facebook. According to artist Domenique Himmelsbach de Vries (1983), people increasingly meet each other via social media. With the artwork he wants to get that meeting out. "Interaction always plays a major role in my work. I make a magnet with which I attract new situations, with which I or others are encouraged to make new contacts and experiences. The monument for prima mensen is a connection between people. A psychological connection. The monument can be used as a tool to promote social cohesion because the loitering youth and the elderly from the same street are standing on the same stone. A concrete connection, a concrete connection between those who are prima". https://www.visitflevoland.nl/nl/locaties/1898367633/prima-mensen

It is wonderful sailing and sailing on the Randmeren near Harderwijk. The Veluwerandmeren consists of the lakes: the Nuldernauw near Nijkerk, the Wolderwijd, the Veluwemeer and the Drontermeer. The Randmeren arose in the fifties after the construction of the polders of the province of Flevoland.
