Ferry across the Pannerden Canal

De Bijland is located in the natural area where three major rivers fork: the Rhine, the Waal, and the IJssel. Due to the open connection to the Rhine, De Bijland is easily accessible (kilometer marker 864). This location makes De Bijland particularly suitable as a starting point or stopover for excursions on Dutch waterways. But this area is also very suitable for other forms of recreation. De Gelderse Poort, for example, is an ideal area for hiking and cycling. There are several signposted hiking, cycling, and skating routes there. You can also start one of the numerous cycling routes from De Bijland.

Very nice concrete cycle path, past many small lakes, some of which were created by gravel extraction.

Nijmegen offers many beautiful views and a charming town center with a medieval flair at the market square. As is typical in the Netherlands, there's plenty of outdoor seating and you can also enjoy restaurants during the day. However, I didn't find a beer garden at the Waal Bridge, where this photo was taken. Perhaps it's below the bridge on the Waalkaade. Last Saturday, there was a big summer festival there and in the town center with plenty of stalls and entertainment, including food and drink.

The oversized metal figure is an eye-catcher and an interesting photo opportunity 📸, located right by the water🌊💙. Small paths lead down to it from the bike/footpath. Adjacent is a great local recreation area with many trails for cycling, hiking, and water activities🌊💙👍🏻.
