In the Maasduinen region, you'll find a whole host of fens. But they don't all have the same history and characteristics. The Esven is one of the moderately nutrient-poor fens. And when I visited, it wasn't moderately dry, but almost completely dry, except for a small puddle. As you can read in the other comments, this happens quite often. And other times, it's overflowing. More about the Esven and these fen types at https://www.natuurparkenlimburg.nl/np/de-maasduinen/over-het-park But even when dry, the path along it, leading to other areas and fens, is quite pleasant.
