The artwork "De Turfsteker", designed by Truus Coumans in 1991, shows a stocky figure of a peat cutter who is busy sticking out heavy peat from a peat bank using a peat shovel. The face of the peat cutter has been worked out in detail, while the rest of the image has been left coarse and almost "muddy". For centuries, people moved into the Peel from Meijel to cut peat. Every year they leased a piece of peeling area and extracted peat from it, which was used as fuel in stoves and for fertilizing the stable.

Bird watching hut at the Blankersplas. In 2003, this area was purchased by the province of Limburg and subsequently partly excavated. This created the current lake, which is fed by seepage water. ever delivered. This bird watching hut was installed in 2015. The area is named after Piet Blankers for his efforts in the creation of this area. The lake attracts all kinds of ducks and other water birds, as well as waders if there is sufficient mud.
