De Kade in Roermond is an important and vibrant waterfront area where the city is directly connected to the river. Situated on the Meuse River and near the mouth of the Roer River, De Kade is a place where history, recreation, and urban development converge. The area serves as a transition between the old city center and the open river landscape. Traditionally, De Kade served a practical function as a mooring for shipping and trade. Goods and people entered the city here, making the water a crucial factor in Roermond's economic growth. This history is still palpable, even though the area has developed a more recreational and social character over time. Today, De Kade is a popular place to stroll, relax, and enjoy the waterfront views. Along the quay are terraces, boat moorings, and open spaces that invite you to pause and observe. The Meuse sets the rhythm here, and slowly passing ships, changing water levels, and the open view give the place a relaxed atmosphere.

Munsterplein is the central square in the historic heart of Roermond and, together with the surrounding streets and monuments, forms one of the city's characteristic meeting places. Located in the city center, Munsterplein is close to shopping streets and other squares. The square is an open, accessible space where both residents and tourists gather to stroll, sit on terraces, attend events, or simply enjoy the historic surroundings. Our Lady of the Munster Church dominates the square and is considered one of the finest examples of Late Romanesque architecture in the Netherlands. Dating back to the early 13th century, the church houses, among other things, the mausoleum of Count Gerard III of Guelders and his wife Margaret of Brabant. Directly on the square is a bandstand (music pavilion), designed by the renowned architect Pierre Cuypers in 1885. This cast-iron, twelve-sided bandstand with a wooden dome has served as the square's musical heart since the 19th century, hosting live performances by brass bands and musical ensembles almost every weekend during the summer. At Munsterplein, you'll also find archaeological sites from the old Munster Abbey, which stood here for centuries before the abbey buildings largely disappeared. These remains lie underground and are part of the Archeo Route Limburg, where information points guide you through the long history of this place. The square also occasionally features memorials and local monuments that commemorate important events in Roermond's history, such as commemorations of the Second World War. The square is surrounded by café terraces, restaurants, and lunchrooms, such as the Munstercafé, which, with its view of the Munster Church, is a popular meeting place for breakfast, lunch, or a coffee break during a city walk. During the summer months, the square becomes a vibrant hub, especially when the weather is nice: the terraces are full, and various musical events and activities take place around the bandstand. Munsterplein serves as an event venue, especially in conjunction with the bandstand concerts in spring and summer. The square also occasionally serves as a venue for seasonal events, such as winter activities around the holidays (e.g., temporary indoor arenas and markets). Roermond's Munsterplein is more than just a town square: it's a cultural meeting place steeped in history and atmosphere. With the 13th-century Munsterkerk (Munster Church), the Cuypers kiosk, archaeological remains of the old abbey, charming terraces, and regular music and events, the square forms the vibrant heart of the city center, where past and present converge.

Het Arresthuis in Roermond is a unique and luxurious hotel housed in a former 19th-century prison. Located at Pollartstraat 7 in Roermond's historic city center, the building was built in 1863 and served as a state prison for almost a century and a half before closing in 2007. After years of vacancy, the Luiten van der Valk family, a hotel and business owner, acquired the complex with the ambition to redevelop it to a high standard. Under the project name Quartier Damianus, the transformation began, giving the prison, along with the adjacent former courthouse, once part of the Bishop's Palace, a new function. In 2011, the building opened its doors as a five-star hotel. Instead of the original 105 small cells, there are now 40 luxury rooms, many of which were created by combining three original cells into a single spacious hotel room. Characteristic elements from the prison era, such as heavy cell doors, window bars, cast-iron staircases, and galleries, have been consciously preserved and integrated into the hotel design so that guests can still experience the atmosphere of the past, but with modern comfort and style. The interior design combines historical ambiance with contemporary luxury: the old cells have been transformed into stylish sleeping and living spaces, and the original structure of the building remains tangible while creating large open spaces. The hotel also houses the renowned Damianz restaurant, where guests can enjoy gastronomic dishes often featuring fresh, seasonal produce. The original prison structure gives this restaurant a unique ambiance in the heart of the hotel. Thanks to this combination of historic architecture and luxury, Het Arresthuis is not only a place to stay overnight but also a culinary and cultural experience for visitors to Roermond. It is within walking distance of the historic city center and other highlights such as the Designer Outlet Roermond, the cathedrals, and museums.
