Great pub, super friendly service. We were lucky, of course, that we went for a walk during Carnival weekend. Everyone was in a good mood, of course. :-)

St. Barbara's Church was built in 1895 to a design by Jac. van Groenendael Jr. The church building, built in the traditionalist style, is a national monument and of cultural-historical significance. It serves as an example of spiritual and typological development in the architecture of Roman Catholic churches in the second half of the 19th century. The church has an urban developmental function due to its special significance for the appearance of Griendtsveen, particularly as the core of the religious ensemble on Helenaveenseweg. Finally, the church is of general importance due to the architectural integrity of its exterior and its rarity in terms of cultural and architectural history. In the cemetery of St. Barbara's Church, you will find the grave of regional novelist Toon Kortooms. At his express wish, the writer was buried in the Peel region, his beloved.

Beautiful church! Roman Catholic and that was nice because my grandparents found it annoying that there was also a Protestant church in the neighboring village of Helenaveen (they were not allowed to go to the fair there).

The Soemeersingel in the Mariapeel is a beautiful route along wet grasslands and peat bogs that offer a unique view of this special nature reserve. Here you walk along narrow waterways and open fields, with the chance to spot special birds such as the bluethroat or snipe along the way. The surrounding landscape of the Verheven Peel adds an extra dimension with its vast heathland and peat lakes.

Beautiful nature reserve. You drive on it via a hard gravel path. The paths on the area itself are somewhat sandier. Left or right does not matter, all directions are beautiful.

Fun to do with the gravel bike. The climb is quite steep so shift small. Beautiful views all around. North, east, south and west are indicated so you know which direction you are looking. The descent is easy to do. A narrow path but with a bit of steering skills you will definitely get down safely

Kasteel Huys ter Horst has a rich history that dates back to the 13th century. Starting as a (flight) castle with a donjon (residential tower), it has developed over time into a mature H-shaped castle with an outer bailey, Hof ter Binnen, tithe barn and moats all around. From a military structure, the castle, the building later developed into an idyllic residential castle for the wealthy nobility. Due to a lack of money, the then owner sold the castle as building material, stone by stone, in the first half of the 19th century. The ruin that remained became the property of the municipality of Horst aan de Maas after the Second World War. At the end of the 20th century, volunteers, united in the Stichting Kasteel Huys ter Horst, started rebuilding parts of the castle according to historical paintings. In the years 2020-2023, large-scale nature restoration work will be carried out in the area around the Leegveld and the adjacent Deurnsche Peel and the Liesselse Peel by Waterschap Aa en Maas, commissioned by the province of Noord-Brabant. The intended goal: to strengthen 940 hectares of nature reserve in the Deurnsche Peel, by creating new nature and measures to retain water. (Information board on site)
