The Overhaal is an important industrial monument, because of the history of the Broekerhaven. In the 17th century, barges from the polder were already being transported to this harbour on the Zuider Zee. At that time, this was done with wheels over a bank. This facility was important for trading and transporting the supply of vegetables to Amsterdam and to the countries along the Baltic Sea (Scandinavian countries). There was great competition with the harbour in Enkhuizen. The electrical installation for this boat lift was made in 1923 and served for a long time for the transfer of vegetables from the polder.
