The Hilversums Wasmeer is not only a beautiful nature reserve for humans, but it is also a popular habitat for various animals. While you enjoy the heath, water and forest, you might see a lizard or even a badger!

In 1932 the area became the property of the municipality of Hilversum. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the site was used as a flow field for the adjacent sewage treatment plant. Industries from Hilversum-East also discharged their wastewater there.[2] As a result, many toxic substances ended up in the soil. Nature in the area had become very nutrient-rich due to all the phosphates in the soil. The area became overgrown with reeds and willows. When the area dried up in a hot, dry summer, the contaminated sludge began to drift. This created a dangerous situation. In the summer of 2003, therefore, a radical remediation was started, which was completed in 2011.

The Kromslootpark is located between the Hollandse brug, Almere harbour, Gooimeer and the A6. Bicycle paths with asphalt pavement and walking paths through the grass along the water. A beautiful piece of landscaped nature with a considerable surface area.

The path runs on the separation between the area of the Ankeveense lakes and the Spiegelplas. From this path there is a nice view over the large Spiegelplas where water sports are also possible.
